Description | Analysis of the behavior of individual economic agents, including consumer behavior and demand, producer behavior and supply, price and output decisions by firms under various market structures, factor markets, market failures, and international trade. | ||||||||||

1. Explain the role of scarcity, specialization, opportunity cost, and cost/benefit analysis 2. Identify the determinants of supply and demand; demonstrate the impact in shifts in both market supply and demand curves on equilibrium price and quantity 3. Summarize the law of diminishing marginal utility; describe the process of utility maximization 4. Calculate demand elasticities, identify the determinants of demand elasticities, and demonstrate the relationship between elasticity and total revenue. 5. Describe the production function and the law of diminishing marginal productivity; calculate and graph short and long run costs of production 6. Identify the four market structures by characteristics; calculate and graph the profit maximizing price and quantity in the output markets using marginal analysis 7. Determine the profit maximizing price and quantity of resource markets 8. Describe governmental efforts to address market failure 9. Identify the benefits of free trade using absolute and comparative advantage |

Changes may be made to the grading scale if necessary. The 24 hour rule: The instructor will not discuss any materials or questions concerning any exam until 24 hours after a student receives an exam. No make up exams will be given under any circumstances. If a student misses a midterm exam, the final exam will be worth 55% of the students grade. If a student misses the final exam, the student must make arrangements with the instructor within one semester, including summer, to take a final exam. Without a final exam grade, the student will receive a grade of F. If you have a physical, emotional, or learning disability, there may be special services available to help you be successful at LSCPA. Documentation of your disability is required.
